CIELAP's 3rd Partnering for Sustainability Conference:
Working Towards Sustainable Urban Communities

About CIELAP's 3rd Partnering for Sustainability Conference

This year's conference will focus on how issues of urban sustainability are being addressed through partnerships between Canadian and international leaders from business, civil society, government, academia, and the media. It will feature panels on energy, water, waste, and the role of media. The conference will also benchmark Canada's progress towards urban sustainability through a much anticipated government panel.

CIELAP's third-annual forum is a place for sustainability practitioners to network, showcase their sustainability achievements, and discuss ways to obtain greater results through partnerships. Speakers will share the most innovative local and international examples of partnerships for urban sustainability.

Through dedicated speaking sessions, panels and issue showcases, speakers from a variety of sectors will:
– explore the definition of a sustainable community
– benchmark Canada’s progress towards sustainable communities
– share the most innovative examples of sustainability partnerships from cities world-wide
– consider many of the elements necessary to make communities sustainable, from poverty and food to buildings and infrastructure
– discuss how successful partnerships have been formed, what qualities make effective partnerships, how each partnership achieved those qualities, as well as the major challenges of partnerships

Discussions will be interactive and engage all delegates to catalyze collaborative action. Delegates and speakers alike will leave this event with new insights, examples, connections, ideas, and plans to propel our communities towards sustainability.

Featured speakers include:
Gro Harlem Brundtland – former Director General of the World Health Organization, former Prime Minister of Norway, and the woman recognized internationally for championing the principle of sustainable development.
David Batstone – journalist, author of Saving the Corporate Soul, and a founding editor of Business 2.0 magazine.
Rick Boychuk – editor of Canadian Geographic.
Lavinia Brown – Deputy Premier of Nunavut.
Clive Doucet – Ottawa city councillor.
David Ramsay – Ontario Minister of Natural Resources and responsible for Aboriginal Affairs.
