Richard Ballhorn
Dick Ballhorn was born and raised in rural Alberta and graduated from the University of Alberta in Arts in 1970 and in Law in 1971 and became a member of the Alberta bar in 1972. He joined the Canadian Foreign Service in 1973 and served abroad in Canadian diplomatic missions in Nairobi, Kenya (1974-1977), Warsaw, Poland (1977-79) and Canberra, Australia (1984-1988). In Ottawa, he worked in: trade policy and promotion and economic law division of the Legal Branch. He headed DFAIT’s Environment Division (1992-1998) and was Director General of the Environment Bureau Sept 1998- Sept 2005 and then acted as DFAIT’s lead negotiator on the Montreal Climate Change meeting, Sept–December 2005. He served as Director General of the Legal Affairs Bureau from Dec 2005- Sept 2007 where he dealt with environmental and fisheries issues. Dick retired from the federal public service on March 15, 2008.

Jackie Campbell
Jackie practices as a lawyer and pharmacist, and is particularly interested in understanding how environmental issues impact human health. As an associate at Saxe Law Office, an environmental law boutique, her pro bono clients include Algonquin Eco Watch. Jackie is also a staff pharmacist at the Drug Information & Research Centre (DIRC), owned and operated by the (not-for-profit) Ontario Pharmacists' Association. At DIRC, she researches and writes on issues relating to all aspects of drug therapy. (First Appointed to the Board of Directors November 16 2006)

Grant J Caven
Grant Caven is Manager of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) for a prominent retail organization with experience in developing, monitoring and maintaining EHS Management Systems and environmental product stewardship programs. To support his current role, Grant has engaged (at a Board of Directors level) several product stewardship organizations and various government and industry stakeholder committees to provide a retail perspective on regulatory development. Previously, Grant held the position of Environmental Geologist, Site Safety Officer for an environmental consulting firm, were he developed expertise in assessing and remediating soil and groundwater contamination resulting from industrial processes. Grant obtained his Post Secondary Education from the University of Guelph in the field of Earth Science. (First Appointed to the Board of Directors November 16 2006)

Richard King
Richard is an environmental and energy lawyer at Ogilvy Renault's Toronto office. His environmental practice focuses on providing clients with compliance advice, assisting in the development of major projects, and advising on the environmental aspects of corporate transactions. His energy practice includes advising clients on the regulatory aspects related to the development of renewable and non-renewable electricity generation facilities, and representing regulated utilities before the Ontario and National Energy Boards. Richard also has unique expertise in relation to First Nation/Metis matters related to energy projects (both on behalf of First Nation clients and non-First Nation clients developing projects on First Nation reserve and traditional lands). Richard has an undergrad degree in biology, a Joint Law/Master in Environmental Studies from York University, and a Master of Laws from LSE.

Nicole Geneau
Nicole Geneau joined NextEra Energy Canada ULC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources LLC, in April of 2008. NextEra Energy Resources is the largest owner and operator of renewable energy facilities in North America. Ms.Geneau joined NextEra Energy Canada from the Ontario Centres of Excellence (“OCE”) Centre for Energy where she oversaw a portfolio of early-stage investments in emerging energy technologies, markets and systems. Prior to OCE, Ms. Geneau was involved in strategy development for the financial services industry, focusing on hedge funds and HNW advisors, and was an external auditor with Ernst & Young LLP. A native of New Brunswick, Nicole earned a degree in Commerce from Queen's University and is an FCO Chevening Fellow in Energy Economics at the University of Reading in the UK. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy and is an external reviewer for NSERC’s Strategic Project Grants (Energy Committee). Ellie Perkins is an Associate Professor, Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University. She has held several academic and professional positions including Environment Policy Adviser, Ontario Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs and Financial Management Training Consultant. (First appointed to the Board of Directors, November 30 2000)

David Powell
David Powell is the Program Counsellor and Placement Coordinator for the Environmental Studies Program at Innis College, University of Toronto. He also does environmental management consulting, primarily as a verifier of the Responsible Care program in place for member companies of the Canadian Chemical Producers' Association. (First appointed to the Board of Directors, October 18 1983)
